Leopard tortoises may be inclined to develop 'runny nose syndrome "than other species. The disease can cause problems for your pet key if not treated quickly. "RNS" is not strictly a disease but a way of describing a certain number of symptoms indicating an infection of the upper respiratory tract. There may be several reasons for this, but if unchecked can lead to pneumonia and death.
It can occur in all species of turtles, but often more frequent in Leopard (Geocheelone pardalis) due to their inability to cope with high humidity and moisture. Always be sure to complete all treatment recommended by your veterinarian, as easily return.
Once your pet has had a runny nose syndrome, which can become a company he means to do, but the symptoms can be highly infectious to other turtles. For this reason, infected animals should be isolated from the rest of the group as "RNS" spread quickly through a colony.

If you get a new pet turtle to keep it in quarantine before being introduced to an established group. You will have to be quarantined for at least 6 months, as it may be a carrier or have recently had runny nose syndrome.
